WinCORY (Computerized Optimization of Recoverable Yield for WINDOWS) is a WINDOWS based computer aided design system to help the saw mills in wood industry to optimize the cutting yield. This system implements and improves upon a collection of optimization algorithms as described in here. The following illustrates the key steps when the system is in operation.
- Display and edit a board, with defects to be removed in the cutting process.
- Identify all the possible clear wood area that are sufficiently large.
- Apply optimization algorithms to cut the board to products according the dimensions specified in the cutting order.
- Output the cutting results as well as the precise operation sequence.
- Visualize or print the product frequencies in different dimension combination.
- Convert the cutting sequence to electrical instructions for the saw mill machines to operate.
